We have recently had the Life Education Caravan and it provides great programmes for children. The amount that we charge children doesn’t cover the full cost of running this programme and so ongoing fundraising has to take place to sustain this work.

The Life Education Trusts’ next big fundraiser is the “Dye for Life” event in which participants agree to have their hair dyed unusual colours and collect sponsorship for this. One of our parents, Sioux H is taking part in this and I urge all to consider giving sponsorship to Sioux for this worthwhile project.

We have had the next phase of shifting rooms to make way for the next 2 rooms getting refurbished. Mrs Johns class has moved back to Room 1, Ms Fletcher’s class has moved to Room 8 and Mrs Steele’s class to Room 4. Ms Fletcher’s shift is permanent and so her class will be known as Room 8 from now on.

On Monday May 7th we have a group coming to present a programme on the Antarctic. ‘Life On The Ice’ is an interactive educational learning experience of exploration and adventure. Through the presentation, students will journey to the Antarctic wilderness and discover the history and nature of New Zealand’s connection to the world’s coldest and driest continent.

During the presentation students will learn about:
History – The hardships endured by early explorersduring expeditions to Antarctica.
The technology – The extreme conditions in Antarctica have initiated improved technologies in clothing, housing, transport and communications.
Food and drink – What do you take with you to the loneliest, coldest, driest continent on Earth? There are no green plants or rainfall. All food is brought to those living in Antarctica by supply ships and planes.
Transport – How people have travelled Antarctica using dogs, ponies, snow-cats, light planes and helicopters to traverse the ice and snow, avoiding the crevasses and other dangers. This is a great presentation and will be worthwhile for the children of all ages to participate in. The cost is $3.00 per child.

The Life Education caravan is here tomorrow until Wednesday 8th. Excellent Health, Safety and Stranger Danger programmes are done and I know the children will enjoy meeting up with Harold again. The cost for children is $2 each with the balance being subsidised by the Support Committee. If you haven’t already paid for this, please do so tomorrow. There is a special Parents session on Thursday afternoon from 2.45 – 3.10. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to see the wonderful things that the children experience in the Life Ed caravan.
