Rooms 1, 2 and 3 enjoyed their ‘Senior School Trip’ in term 4, they went to Miranda Hot Pools on Friday 21st November, a big thank-you to Mrs Johns for organizing the day for us. Check out some video action of the trip in the movie below.
We need to have an up to date list of those who are likely to come to this school. Please fill in the slip below and return it with the names of any pre-schoolers you know who will be coming to East School and from neighbours or friends who don’t presently have children at school.
The Habits of Mind School Goal for this week is ‘Taking Responsible Risks’.
Kia Ora,
As part of our Vision work we have been delighted to note a number of parents who would like to support classroom programmes and specialist areas. These names have been collated and Electives, a Friday afternoon programme, is now in place. Senior school students choose from a variety of activities including Kapa Haka, surfing, music, art, claymation, gardening and computers. Electives start in the senior school this week for the next four weeks. Our aim is to involve the juniors next year. If you have an idea or activity you would like to help out with let us know.
Thank you to Sioux Honeyman who has processed over 500 books for our school library and stamped and covered a multitude of classroom resources. With our teacher aides mainly based in classes, it has been tricky to find time to get on with these essential tasks, thanks Sioux for being our life saver!
The juniors had a fabulous day at Candyland. The buses arrived back at the end of the day with smiling faces on children and parents alike – what a great experience. Thank you to all parents who supervised groups. Children enjoy the small group interaction and the staff appreciates your
help.
Robbie McGougan took a team of students to athletics at Waihi College during the week. Children tested their skills against others in our cluster. Congratulations to Tasmin, Abbey, Serena, Kirsten, Annetta, Lori, Angelique, Josaye, Blake and Jack.
The Christmas Parade is on the 13th of December. We are looking for helpers to dress our float and travel with students as we drive down town. Names to Julie and Heather S please.
Enjoy your week.
We have been having fun making radio plays in room 3, with the children working on using expressive voices that empahsize the character they are playing and we are trying to put some sound effects in too. Here is a play called ‘The Madhouse’ just click on the player below.

Electives are on Friday’s and are now going full steam ahead-yahoo! Thank you to the parents who are offering activities. Currently room two and three children are taking part in surfing (Robbie M and Scott M), Kapa Haka (Darren T, Mr T, Shona M and Emily H), garden art (Allison L), computer hardware (Tim M), art (Jaun F), claymation (Briar F), photography (Mark S), knitting (Heather J) and drama/stilt walking (Isobel H). See the video footage below from the electives on Friday 21st November, with children taking part in the surfing option.
Another of our electives was ‘Looking At Hardware’ with Tim, people from our parent / caregiver community or the wider community as in the case of Tim who is a computer technician, come to East School and add to our elective options by leading some of the activities available. Below is a video showing Tim working with a group of children who are studying the way a battery works.

Kia Ora,
Abbey and Jordy have kicked off our new look newsletter with photos of our week. Every week, as roving reporters, they will take shots of our school in action. I hope you like the new improved page.
Our Waihi East Vision work continues. It is exciting to see your ideas coming together into a new document that represents “us”. We will send out more information as the weeks progress.
My week in Wellington was very rewarding. I now have a Professional Development Plan for 2009 that focuses on my leadership. My thanks to Lynette, Isobel and staff for their efforts while I was away. I believe a very successful Waihi East Calf Club was held and group day. Thanks Kevin Corney and the organizing committee.
This is another busy week with junior trip tomorrow and athletics. Thank you to all parents for your assistance with supervision and transport. Enjoy the sunshine.
Regards Emily
