This week you will receive your voting forms for the casual vacancy on the BOT. Three school community members have been nominated – Annie Hight, Seton Frew and Bonnie Milne. A box has been set up in the office to place your voting papers. Every voting paper is numbered. We would like all parents to vote in this election. As an incentive, we have enclosed a lucky draw entry form giving you the opportunity to win a large box of chocolates. Please place your voting paper and lucky draw entry in the separate boxes. Voting closes at 3pm on Friday 3rd of July with election results published in our first newsletter next term.

Last week Beau, Kailala, Liz and I went to Elliott’s Furniture Factory for a Kiwiana project because we are looking for creative or innovative Kiwis. Elliott’s Furniture Company is near the Ohinemuri River on Clarke Street in Waihi.
I think they’re innovative because they make their own furniture. We got a personal tour led by a man named Chris. He showed us the giant computer it was like a television! Then he showed us the process of making the cabinets, tables and carvings. There were giant machines that smooth the wood planks, then they glue the planks together and wait for them to set. Finally they glue and screw the legs and hinges on.
I recorded a sound file that talks about what we saw during our visit to Elliot’s, we also took photos during our time there and made a slide cast by combining the photos and sound file on a website called ‘Slideshare’. We embedded the slidecast with this story here on our school website. Click on the picture below to view it.
