Centennial 1907 – 2007
Centenary Update (7.02.07)
This milestone event comes up in just over two weeks!!
The weekend of 23rd – 25th February has been set aside to celebrate 100 years of schooling at Waihi East School and we would like present parents and children to get involved. We also want to encourage those of you who are past pupils to attend the events – it’s not too late – pick up a registration form from the office. Many people have registered (the local registrations are a bit slow!!) and I know it is going to be a great fun weekend.
A summary of the weekends activities is:
- Friday Night – Mix and mingle at Waihi College.
- Saturday Morning – Centenary function at East School from 10.00a.m. [March Past, Roll Call, Honouring of past teachers and pupils, Photos, Item by present pupils]
- Saturday Afternoon – [Lunch, Cafe and Bar]
- Saturday Night – Centenary Dinner and Dance at the Memorial Hall
- Sunday Morning – Brunch at East School from 10.00am.
Present Pupil’s Involvement:
The item on the Saturday morning is going to be Jump Jam and we would like as many of the present pupils as possible (of all levels) to participate. We will also be getting some of the children to carry signs in the parade and give out cake etc.
Parents involvement:
The School Support Committee are using this function as a major fundraiser and we ask for support from all parents for this.
Get involved – it’s going to be a great weekend!
WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND!!
The celebrations of the School’s Centenary over the weekend was a fantastic
event and we have received lots of positive comments from people who came.
Thank you to all those who supported the weekend events -
- The Centennial Committee – those with a present connection with the school are Heather Spargo, Jenny Twidle, Brendon Spargo, Maren Johansen and Sandra Anderton. To you all thankyou for the great job in organising the event and hard work over the weekend.
- School Support Committee – all those who helped with the lunch and brunch. It was great to have such a big team helping. A special thanks to the organisers Sharon Samson, Julie Twidle and Sonya Whatford. There were many compliments about the great lunch and yesterday’s brunch. Thanks to all those who sent along food for this—it is certainly going to add to the profits.
- Thanks to the children who held signs, presented flowers, gave out cake and performed in the Jump Jam group. You did a great job—we were all so proud of you.
Those of you who came to the functions as past pupils – we hope you enjoyed yourself.
Here are some slides from the weekend.
