What a great success Softball has been this term. Thankyou to the students for playing, also to the parents who watched or played each week. And thank you to Pania, Leon & Paula for their coaching & enthusiasm. We look forward to Term 1/Week 4 when we start again! Mid January 2010 : Casual Weekend softballs games at East School. During ‘Wheelie Day’ a group of Waihi East School BMX and Mountain Bike riders went to the Waihi Beach BMX track for some fun. Take a look at the video below to see us in action.

Wheelie Day on the last day of term three was a blast, we had lots of activities at school and a group of BMX and Mountain Bike riders went out to the Waihi Beach BMX track by the Coastguard building at Bowentown. Here are some photos we took of the East School cyclists going over a jump.

Our East School teams competed to the max in netball, soccer and rugby with two teams entered in each of the sporting areas, nearly all the senior class children were active on this day. The games were played at the Waihi Netball Courts, Morgan Park for soccer and the Waihi Rugby Grounds. Our year 6 netball team won their division, the year 5 netball team was second in their category and the over 40kg rugby team had a terrifically determined game only being beaten in extra time to finish second in the rugby. The Northern Cluster Cross Country (includes primary schools on the northern side of Tauranga up to Waihi) was held at Whakamarama Primary School on Tuesday 16 June. Waihi District Primary Schools’ sent seven representatives in the boys and girls divisions for each or the year groups 4, 5 and 6.

The schools in this area achieved some great results in this event with Sabrina C (Waihi East) 1st -
Year 5 Girls, Melissa S (Central)2nd – Yr 5 Girls, Lorielle C (Waihi East) 2nd – Yr 6 Girls, Blake A (Central) 3rd – Yr 4 Boys, Taine C-R (Beach) 3rd – Yr 5 Boys.

Sabrina C 1st – Year 5 Girls
Fletcher M 5th – Year 5 Boys

Runners who finished in the top seven placings of their division at this event will go on to compete in the Western Bay of Plenty Cross Country on Wednesday 24 June at Waipuna Park, Welcome Bay.

On Tuesday 16th June the Northern Cluster Cross Country is due to be held at Whakamarama School. Children from year four to six who finished in the top seven runners in their gender group at the Waihi and District Schools’ Cross Country, can compete at the Northern Cluster event as part of the Waihi and District Schools’ Cross Country team.

Mr Gurnick will manage the team and a notice is being sent home today (June 11th) with all the details included that the runners will need, including a permission and transport help slip.
